How Do I Download An App On My Ipad

My grandson helped me set up my new iPad, but now that he’s back home, I’m confused. How do I find and add new apps, games and programs on my iPad Mini?

The Kodi app is available on the official site for download on all major operating systems, although you need to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad for the iOS versions to work. Two ways to download. Download the Amazon Video app from the iTunes App Store on to your iPad Open the app and sign in to your Amazon account. Tap the Wishlist button on the bottom of the screen, and select the movie.

Ah, sounds like you’re suffering from Helpful Grandchild Syndrome! And you’re not alone: it’s easy to have someone else setup and configure a new device, whether it’s something you plug into your TV like a Roku, a smartphone or a tablet like your new Apple iPad Mini. Works great until you decide you want to gain control over your device and be able to find and install new apps, games, utilities and other programs based on what you want.

Fortunately it’s quite easy to find new apps for your iPad — and iPhone, as it’s the same process — download them and get them ready to run on your device, even without any grandchildren in the room. 🙂

It all revolves around the App Store program that has a blue icon with a white “A” on it:

Find this app on your iPad (or be lazy and swipe downward from the center of the screen to bring up app search, then type in “app” as a shortcut) to bring up the App Store. It’ll look like this:

Note that I’m showing screens from an iPhone 6s, but the app and process works identically on the iPad and iPad Mini!

Look closely on the very bottom for the “Search” button. It has a magnifying glass a la Sherlock Holmes.

Tap on it and you’ll be looking at a blank screen, so tap in the first few letters of an app you’d like to find and install. For this demonstration I’m going to be installing the nifty Microsoft Selfie app:

You can see the related searches and search hints, including the top one which in this case is exactly what I seek.

A tap on it and the App Store searches and brings back matches for that particular search:

The first match is exactly what I’m looking for, so to download and install it is a matter of a single tap on the blue “GET” button. Notice, however, that the second matching app has a different button where below it in tiny print it says “In-App Purchases”. That means that the program is free to download but has upgrades internal to the app that cost money. If the app costs money to buy and download, then “GET” is replaced by the price, like “$1.99” or similar.

Since Microsoft Selfie is free (thanks Microsoft!) as I said, it’s just a matter of tapping on “GET”, so I’ll do that.

Nothing’s changed, has it? Look again, more closely: The “GET” has been replaced by a circle that indicates download progress. When the download’s done, that changes yet again:

Now you can tap on the “OPEN” button here, but instead, I suggest that you go back to the main screen by tapping on the home button (the button on the bottom face of the iPad or iPhone) then swiping to find the new icon. That way you’ll know where the program is on your own device next time you want to launch it.

And a hint: New apps always show up in the first available slot, so look on the lower right of each screen as you swipe left-to-right.

Eventually, I find the new app icon:

Now a tap on the new App’s icon and it’s launched!

Each app will approach first run differently, so the ones you download might require you to set up an account, log in to an online system, take a picture of your cat (well, maybe not that one), and similar. Whatever the case, that’s the scoop on how to search, find, download and install new apps and programs for your Apple iPad Mini or iPhone!
